Main Focus

I am running for McHenry County Board because I want to make a difference.

I’m inspired by local leaders, like my husband and brother-in-law, who serve their communities and help right the wrongs that they see. My entire life, I have sought to help others. I worked in crisis intervention for ten years, helping kids and adults through the most difficult time in their lives. I also volunteered at the Shedd Aquarium and loved working with children. It was then that I decided to go back to school to pursue a teaching degree. Having been in education for over twenty years, I’ve had the opportunity to make a difference and impact both students and teachers. I’ve now become a certified coach, once again with the goal of helping others.

Through all of this, I’ve learned that the way to truly help is to listen to people. I believe the mark of a true leader is someone who listens. As your McHenry County Board Member, I pledge to listen to you, because I know it’s about you, not me. That’s the difference between a public servant and a politician, and I am not a politician. I will put you first. I will hear you, learn what is important to you, and then take action to help address your concerns.

The biggest concern I have heard from voters is that our taxes are too high. If we don’t figure out a way to lower taxes, we are going to continue to see families and businesses flee across our borders. I will work to lower our taxes through sustainable cuts in the county’s budget, government consolidation to eliminate redundancy, and shared services to be more efficient with tax dollars. I will also work to improve economic development and create good-paying jobs for our residents. We must also institute good government reforms, like term limits, and pursue full transparency. This will help restore voters’ trust in their government.

To accomplish this, our leaders must collaborate and learn to move forward together. This is our county—we are in this together. I believe we can get extraordinary things done for McHenry County if we work together. I hope you will give me this opportunity to serve you. McHenry County is a great place to live. I love my hometown of Crystal Lake, and as I travel throughout our county I see all the amazing things we have to offer.

Please vote for me, Lori Parrish, for McHenry County Board. I am ready to lead by listening, collaborate on solutions, and always put you first.
